When is root canal needed?
Root canal treatment is usually needed when the soft pulp inside a tooth becomes infected, through deep decay, repeated dental work or a crack or injury. Common signs include persistent toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold, or swelling near the affected tooth.
The treatment
We'll numb the area completely, then carefully clean out the infected pulp, shape the canal and seal it. A crown is often recommended afterwards to protect the now-fragile tooth. With modern techniques, root canal treatment is no more uncomfortable than having a routine filling.
